Meet Nick Toth
What is your role at DUAL?
I have recently taken up the position of Director of Underwriting for Tamesis Dual Limited. We are a Global Specialty Excess of Loss Treaty reinsurance business operating in London, Miami and Cologne.
If you weren’t working in insurance, what career path would you have followed?
When I was studying I wanted to become a physiotherapist, however, after spending two weeks in an intensive care unit I decided that this wasn’t something I could do long term. I have the utmost respect for people who work in hospitals. If I hadn’t followed a path into the City I would most likely be a historian.
Where was your favourite holiday? Or where would you like to go most?
My favourite holiday was when my wife and I visited Venice – a truly magical place.
Who do you most admire, and why?
I most admire my father. He has been a wonderful role-model to me and my siblings and taught us the virtues of hard work, honesty and commitment. He’s a wonderful chess player who I have only beaten on a handful of occasions over the years and despite being in his mid-eighties remains extremely active and a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren who hold him in the upmost affection.
What do you wish you had more time for?
I love spending time with my young children and my wider family and I wish I had more time to do so.
Tell us your best book, music or podcast recommendations…
I loved ‘Freakonomics’ when I read it for the first time and the differences in looking at problem solving was genuinely eye opening. I love any music by the Rolling Stones and Oasis and my favourite podcast is Neil Oliver’s Love Letter to the World.
